Surgical Care

As a Periodontal Specialist, Dr. Williams has received advanced training in surgical procedures and techniques used to treat periodontal disease or to graft or re-contour bone and gum tissue in preparation for cosmetic, implant or major restorative procedures.

Laser Periodontics
Often it is possible to perform these procedures with the support of Laser Periodontal Therapy (LPT™). Less invasive and more comfortable than cutting and sutures associated with traditional surgery, laser periodontics has many applications in surgical periodontal care. Read more about LPT™

Periodontal Surgical procedures that Dr. Williams performs in our office include:

  • Osseous Surgery & Crown Lengthening. Adjustment to bone and tissue levels to smooth defects or change the gum-to-tooth relationship to support the integrity and cleansability of dental restorations and make supporting tooth structure more resistant to decay and periodontal disease.

  • Guided Tissue and Bone Regeneration. This technique is used to replace previously lost gum and bone tissue. Special membranes are surgically inserted over the bone defects to stimulate cell growth that will eventually develop into natural gum tissue and bone.

  • Frenectomy. The frenum is connective tissue that attaches the lip to the gum. Sometimes this connection may be large and comes too close to the teeth, creating a fibrous mass that can potentially hold the 2 front teeth apart. The frenum attachment is removed and the gum tissue is contoured to make the teeth look longer and equal in length to create a more appealing smile.

For Your Comfort
Dr. Williams has received advanced training in conscious sedation. Many of our patients that have previously experienced anxiety when visiting the dentist have found this type of sedation for a surgical procedure helpful.
